News digest for July 28

Searches of the editor-in-chief of The Insider , a verdict to the National Bolsheviks from Nizhny Novgorod and a request for punishment in a “sanitary case”. We talk about the main things for July 28th.

• Security forces came to search the home of The Insider founder Roman Dobrokhotov and his parents’ apartment as part of a criminal libel case. During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized several mobile phones, a laptop, tablets and a foreign passport.
• A court in Nizhny Novgorod sentenced National Bolshevik Ramazan Suleymanov to a year of correctional labor. He was found guilty of contempt of court because of a banner with the inscription “Judge Antonov is a servant of s#ndons.”
• The prosecutor requested two years of restriction of freedom for the defendant in the “sanitary case” Lyubov Sobol - if the court agrees, the oppositionist will be prohibited from participating in rallies and going out at night. Roskomnadzor also demanded that Twitter block Sobol’s account.
• A Krasnoyarsk resident sentenced to two years probation in the “palace case” had two months added to his sentence. The man was found guilty of using violence against a government official at a rally on January 23.
• A case of slander against the veteran was opened against political scientist Fyodor Krasheninnikov, who left Russia. The reason for criminal prosecution was a publication on his Telegram channel. The same veteran was previously a victim in a libel case brought against Alexei Navalny.
• The home of Jehovah's Witness from the Primorsky Territory, Yuri Ponomarenko, was searched in connection with the case of organizing the activities of an extremist organization. They also came to search his fellow believers from the Murmansk region.
• The former head of Navalny’s Yaroslavl headquarters, Elena Lekiashvili, was ordered to pay 296 thousand rubles according to a claim by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This amount is allegedly compensation for the work of security forces at the January 23 protests.
• Bailiffs detained Yabloko deputy candidate Kirill Goncharov in court. His volunteers Ivan Dorofeev and Anton Surin were arrested for five days under the article of disobedience to the legal demands of police officers.
