Israel became the first in the world to begin mass vaccination with the third dose of Pfizer

The Israeli authorities announced the start of mass revaccination against coronavirus in the country. According to Reuters, this is the first state in the world to take such a step.

A third dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine will be available to people over 60 years of age who have completed two doses of the vaccine at least five months ago.

The authorities explained the need for revaccination by the spread of the delta strain in the country.

• The World Health Organization does not yet officially recommend a third dose revaccination, citing the lack of sufficient research on its effectiveness and safety. The WHO believes that instead, developed countries could share vaccine surpluses with poorer ones in order to prevent new large-scale outbreaks of covid and the emergence of new strains.
• Israel was one of the leaders among all countries in the world in terms of vaccination rates at the beginning of the year. By April, 60% of the population had been vaccinated there.
• In the last month in Israel, due to the spread of the delta strain, the incidence has risen sharply - now in a country of 10 million people, about two thousand cases a day are recorded. In June, only a few dozen people fell ill every day.
