A court in St. Petersburg refused to recognize a transgender woman as the mother of her own children

A court in St. Petersburg refused to recognize a transgender woman as the mother of her own children. This is reported by the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.

Before the transfer, the applicant, while still a man, managed to start a family and have two children. Their biological mother has passed away.

After receiving new documents, the transgender woman asked the registry office to change the birth certificates of her children. She wanted to write her name in the mother column, and put a dash in the father column. The department refused her, and she went to court.

The applicant explained that she was the only legal representative of the children, but in all institutions she was required to provide documents confirming her status as a parent. Because of this, she has to disclose information about her personal life, which causes her moral suffering.

The district court refused the applicant, the decision stood on appeal.
