Oleg Navalny received a one-year suspended sentence for a “sanitary case”

In the Preobrazhensky District Court of Moscow, the prosecutor's office requested one year of probation for the defendant in the “sanitary case” Oleg Navalny. This was reported by MBKH Media with reference to Navalny’s lawyer Nikos Paraskevov.

In addition to one year of probation, Oleg Navalny was asked for another three years of probation. He is accused of inciting a violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code with the use of Part 4 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code) in connection with a rally in support of Alexei Navalny, which took place on January 23 in Moscow.

• Earlier, other defendants in the case - Dani Akel and Lyubov Sobol - were sentenced.
• Charges of inciting violations of sanitary and epidemiological standards were brought against Alexei Navalny's brother Oleg, former lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Foundation Lyubov Sobol, head of the Doctors' Alliance Anastasia Vasilyeva, municipal deputies Lyusa Stein, Konstantin Yankauskas and Dmitry Baranovsky, Pussy Riot member Maria Alekhina, former coordinator of Navalny’s Moscow headquarters Oleg Stepanov, FBK supporter Nikolai Lyaskin and Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh. Almost all cases are already in court. The Yankauskas case was closed on July 14 at the investigation stage. On April 22, it became known that the accused Dani Akel appeared in the case, who, according to the investigation, succumbed to the calls of the main defendants and came to the rally, despite the fact that he was sick with coronavirus.

• In connection with the detention of Alexei Navalny, a series of protests took place throughout Russia. The largest protests took place on Saturday, January 23, and Sunday, January 31. Security forces reacted harshly to the protests: on January 23, more than 4,000 people were detained, and on January 31, more than 5,500 . On the day the sentence in the Yves Rocher case was changed to a real one,arrests also took place near the Moscow City Court building, including journalists.
