Petersburg: The deputy chairman of the fishing collective farm was detained in the case of the death of "Onega"

In St. Petersburg, the deputy chairman of the fleet of the Fisheries of Kalinin was detained in St. Petersburg. He is a suspect in the case of violation of labor protection, entailing the death of the Trenaea fishermen "Onega" in the Barents Sea. This was reported by the North-Western Investigation Department of Transport of the TFR.

According to the investigation, in December 2020, the captain of the Onega vessel, the owner of which was the fishing collective farm, during the fishing in the Barents Sea, told the suspect about the difficult weather situation in the area of the ship’s location, as well as the constant icing of the trawler. However, the deputy chairman of the collective farm "in violation of the requirements of the job description" did not make a decision on the prohibition of fishing and did not give the corresponding order to the captain, which, according to investigators, including entailed the death of the crew.

The distress signal from Onega arrived early on the morning of December 28, 2020, it was accepted by the captain of the Voikovo ship, which was in the immediate vicinity. The ship disappeared from the navigation systems, the on -board lights "Onega" ceased to be observed. Due to the strong storm and low temperature, there was an active icing of the trawler, Voikovo immediately headed to the place of the disaster, where the Onega crew that were raised aboard.

In fact, two months after the crash, the Commission of the Federal Service for Supervision of Transport (Rosmorrechflot) called the reasons for the tragedy : icing and "unprofessional actions" of the captain of Onega Alexander Baranov. At the same time, the trawler has not yet been examined: since the collapse he has been in the area of the New Earth at a depth of about 130 meters. Divers cannot inspect it, since the Onega lies too deep. As the department made a conclusion about the causes of the accident without researching the vessel is unknown.

• The thuler "Onega" sank on December 28, 2020. There were 19 people on board the ship - 16 people residents of the Murmansk region, three more from Arkhangelsk, Kursk and Rostov regions. Two crew members managed to escape. The searches of the rest were unsuccessful.
