On the night of August 3, dozens of dead deer discovered on the river in the vicinity of the village of Khatanga Krasnoyarsk Territory, the local Hatanga.rf edition reported . It posted a photo of the dead and wounded individuals and noted that the animals were "literally shot." Since the carcasses of the dead deer were not taken away, “Hatanga.rf” suggested that it was shooting from “sports interest”.
Of the officials, the inspector of the hunting daze Alexander Belyaev arrived at the scene. He told NGS24 that he counted 56 dead individuals. Of these, 17 were killed by shots from firearms, the rest drowned during the crossing over the river, Belyaev believes.
At the same time, according to him, the veterinary inspector for some reason underestimated the number of shot deer, and the police did not take their carcasses-although Belyaev convinced the police that they had to be sent for examination. The next day of the dead deer was no longer on the spot, the inspector says.
After this incident, Belyaev began to exert pressure: he was forced to quit the “third parties”, the inspector said, without clarifying the details.
I wanted to protect animals and our people. You can hunt for deer if there is a license, but you can’t shoot at them if they run in water - in this case, the animal is in a knowingly helpless position. Murder, especially young animals, will inevitably lead to a decrease in the number of individuals, and this is also the food and earnings of the small peoples of the North.
The Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Krasnoyarsk Territory confirmed that 56 dead deer were discovered on the banks of the Hatanga River from the Hatanga River. However, according to preliminary data from law enforcement agencies, only two individuals have gunshot wounds.
The rest of the main mass is the calves of the wild northern deer, which allegedly during seasonal migration during the crossing over the river weakened and choked, then they were nailed to the shore, there are no damage on carcasses.
A criminal case of illegal hunting with causing major damage has been instituted (part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). For this, up to two years in prison.
Now in the Krasnoyarsk Territory there is a migration of the northern deer. Animals move from Taimyr south to Evenkia, the regional government said .
A significant obstacle to animals is water crossings. They have to simultaneously and massively overcome distances up to two or more kilometers along the river. According to scientists, this is a test for deer and, first of all, for young animals, which not everyone passes. This year, a similar case was recorded on the Hatanga River. Experts call this the natural process of migration.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the population of the wild northern deer in Russia is reduced: now there are about 900 thousand individuals throughout the country, although there were about one and a half million several decades ago. Earlier in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, cases of mass poaching on the northern deer were already identified ; In 2017, poachers killed about 20 thousand individuals, according to WWF.
