The court in Izhevsk did not extend the house arrest of Jehovah's Witnesses

On August 10, the Industrial District Court of Izhevsk changed the measure of restraint for Jehovah's Witness Alexander Kutin - he was given a ban on certain actions instead of house arrest. This was reported on the portal “Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia”.

The believer was forbidden to leave home from 21:00 to 6:00 and to correspond via the Internet or using a mobile phone until October 10. Judge Alexey Shnit rejected the investigator's request to extend Kutin's house arrest.

The man is accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization. He spent the first 15 days after his arrest in a pre-trial detention center; on April 29, the Supreme Court of Udmurtia upheld Kutin’s appeal and changed the measure of restraint to house arrest.

• On April 14, in Izhevsk, security forces came to at least 12 residential addresses of Jehovah’s Witnesses and detained six men, among whom was Alexander Kutin. The detainees were charged with organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code).
• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. Later, all organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses were added to the list of prohibited ones. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began.
