The FSB opened a case against a former employee of an Obninsk provider. He is suspected of attempting to hack the Rostec structure

The Kaluga Directorate of the Federal Security Service (FSB) opened a criminal case against a former Internet service provider technical support employee on suspicion of attempting to hack into the network of the Obninsk research and production enterprise Tekhnologiya im. A. G. Romashina (part of the Rostec State Corporation). about this RBC writes with reference to the person involved in the case, Nikita Demidov.

The case was initiated under the article on the creation, distribution or use of programs designed to unlawfully influence the critical information infrastructure of Russia (part 1 of article 274.1 of the Criminal Code). It provides for the possibility of punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of two to five years.

Demidov specified that he had not yet been charged. According to him, working in the technical support of the Internet provider Maxnet Systems (Maxnet) in the middle of last year, he suggested that the management check all network routers for vulnerabilities for prevention.

Among the IP addresses scanned using the free program was the address of ONPP Tekhnologiya, which contained the company's e-mail, writes RBC. Demidov claims that the scanning was carried out blindly.

He also explained that when scanning the Tekhnologiya mailbox, the State system for detecting, preventing and eliminating the consequences of computer attacks on information resources worked.

A few days later Demidov was searched by the local department of the FSB, and in February they were told that a criminal case had been opened.

“The charge has not been filed yet, as far as I understand, the investigation is conducting another examination of the hard drive seized from me,” Demidov said.

A representative of ONPP Tekhnologiya told RBC that in the fall of 2020, the information security service of the institute tracked down and stopped an attempt to hack the server. No damage was done to the company, he said.
