Student Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev is demanded to be sentenced to 6 years in prison due to a fight with riot police at a protest

The prosecution, during the debate in the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow, asked to impose six years in prison for Moscow State University student Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev in the case of a fight with riot police at a rally on January 23. The lawyer of the accused, Murad Musaev, announced this on RusNews.

At the same time, at the trial in May, the prosecutorasked Dzhumaeva for five years in a general regime colony. In July, the court resumed the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the case, since the defense indicated that Dzhumaev was wrongfully accused on three counts. The verdict is expected to be announced on August 19.

Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev is charged with an article about violence against government officials (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). The investigation claims that he punched and kicked an equipped riot policeman on Pushkin Square during a rally in support of Navalny on January 23. Dzhumaev admitted his guilt, the case was considered in a special manner.

The lawyer also said that at the trial three riot policemen with whom Dzhumaev had fought were interrogated. “We interrogated three injured law enforcement officers, they said that they had no claims against Dzhumaev,” the lawyer said in a RusNews broadcast.

According to the version that Dzhumaev’s relatives voiced to State Duma deputy from Chechnya Adam Delimkhanov, Said-Mukhamad acted in a state of passion: he received a blow to the head and after that began to fight with the security forces.

The protest participants were accused not only of using violence against security forces (Article 318 of the Criminal Code), but also of violating sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code), involving minors in illegal activities (Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), road closures (Article 267 of the Criminal Code).
