Moscow State University student Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev was sentenced to five years in prison due to a fight with riot police at a protest

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sentenced Moscow State University student Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev to five years in prison in the case of a fight with riot police at a rally on January 23. Lawyer Murad Musaev reported this to OVD-Info.

On August 18, the prosecution asked that Dzhumaev be sentenced to six years in prison. At the same time, in May, at the trial, the prosecutorrequested five years in a general regime colony for him. In July, the court resumed the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the case, since the defense objected to the fact that Dzhumaev was accused of three counts. As a result, two counts remained in the indictment.

Said-Mukhamad Dzhumaev is charged with an article about violence against government officials (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). The investigation claims that he punched and kicked an equipped riot policeman on Pushkin Square during a rally in support of Navalny on January 23. Dzhumaev admitted his guilt, the case was considered in a special manner.

The lawyer also said that at the trial three riot policemen with whom Dzhumaev had fought were interrogated. “We interrogated three injured law enforcement officers, they said that they had no claims against Dzhumaev,” the lawyer said in a RusNews broadcast .

According to the version that Dzhumaev’s relatives voiced to State Duma deputy from Chechnya Adam Delimkhanov, Said-Mukhamad acted in a state of passion: he received a blow to the head and after that began to fight with riot police.

Dzhumaev was given the maximum sentence known to OVD-Info under Article 318 of the Criminal Code in connection with the shares. Five years is the maximum term that the court can assign under Part 1 of this article. At the same time, those convicted under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a government official dangerous to life and health) in connection with rallies in support of Navalny received shorter sentences than Dzhumaev.
