The Ministry of Justice reports that the Dozhd TV channel was included in the register of “foreign agents” due to receiving 130 thousand euros from the European Union and “distributing and quoting” materials from other publications - “foreign agents.”

“For the period from July 2020 to July 2021, Roskomnadzor identified facts of dissemination and quoting in the online publication tvrain.ru and the Dozhd TV channel (founder of TV Dozhd LLC) materials of foreign media outlets performing the functions of a foreign agent: Voice of America ", "Idel.Realii", "Caucasus.Realii", "Current Time TV Channel", "Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (PCE/PC)", "Siberia.Realii", "Northern.Realii", SIA "Medusa Project " , "VTimes.io" and so on," the press release says.

In addition, the TV channel received 130 thousand euros from the European Union through the European Commission for covering relations between the EU and Russia, the ministry says. The editor-in-chief of Dozhd, Natalya Sindeeva , said that we are talking about a grant for a series of educational programs “Russia is Europe.” Officials also found “indirect foreign funding through Russian funds” from the TV channel.

“The Ministry of Justice of Russia, when deciding to include TV Channel Dozhd LLC in the register, acted within its competence and in accordance with the procedure established by law,” the ministry assured.

The TV channel Dozhd and the publication Important Stories added “foreign agents” to the media register on August 20. In 2021, this status was awarded to Meduza, VTimes , The Insider and two dozen journalists.
