In Cyprus, a former investigator from Altai was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the rape of a minor girl.

In Northern Cyprus, the criminal court of the city of Kyrenia sentenced former Altai investigator Alexander Satlaev to 12 years in prison for the rape of a minor girl. Satlaev, who was the son of the chairman of the court near Gorno-Altaisk, worked as an investigator of the Investigative Committee. In 2015, he was sentenced to six years in prison, found guilty of four counts of rape of women and four more attempted rapes.

According to investigators, late at night or early in the morning he would sneak up on women on a deserted street, rape them, and when he noticed people or cars approaching, he would run away. Based on a statement from one of his victims, he conducted a pre-investigation check and persuaded the woman to withdraw her statement. He was detained in 2013, when he was 23 years old.

Four years later, Satlaev was released on parole, and, according to the Investigative Committee, in 2019 he again raped a resident of Barnaul in the entrance of the house. In August he was put on the wanted list, but then he fled under a false passport to Northern Cyprus through Kazakhstan and Turkey.

A month later, he was detained in Cyprus for assaulting a woman. The country's authorities claimed that in September, at about 6 a.m., he waylaid a minor returning from work at a hotel and raped her at the entrance of the house. In February, Satlayev escaped from Northern Cyprus Central Prison in Nicosia by jumping into a truck that was delivering food to prisoners. He was found a few days later in an abandoned house near Kyrenia.
