RBC: Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against MPGU teachers due to bribes in bitcoins

The Investigative Committee in Moscow opened a criminal case on bribery of teachers of the Moscow State Pedagogical University (MPGU). It is reported by RBC with reference to a source in the department and a source familiar with the case file.

According to the newspaper, three employees of the university appear in the case. Elena Levanova is the head of the Department of Social Pedagogy and Psychology at the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, Ksenia Pleshakova is a lecturer in the same department, and Vladimir Pleshakov is the Scientific Secretary of the Dissertation Council of the University. The case of giving and receiving bribes was initiated under Part 5 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code and part 3 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code, Levanova is also suspected of fraud (Article 159 of the Criminal Code).

According to the investigation, Levanova received 384 thousand rubles through other defendants. from an applicant for a PhD degree for help in defending a dissertation. They agreed to prepare together the questions to be asked during the defense and to arrange a break during it so that they could prepare better.

In addition, Levanova is suspected of receiving 50 thousand rubles in November last year, allegedly for their subsequent transfer to certain people from the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science "for making a positive decision when awarding a degree."

In December last year, the telegram channel Baza reported that the teachers of the Moscow State Pedagogical University allegedly take bribes in bitcoins and receive them on crypto wallets. The channel clarified that during searches of Elena Levanova's house they found "cashed funds, packaged in envelopes that were intended for university tops," and that a criminal case had already been opened against her.
