Lawyer Ivan Pavlov left Russia

Lawyer Ivan Pavlov, ex-head of Team 29 and a defendant in the case of disclosure of preliminary investigation data (Article 310 of the Criminal Code), left Russia due to pressure from the authorities. He reported this on his Telegram channel.

At the end of April, Pavlov was ordered to prohibit certain actions. According to the security forces, the lawyer, without the consent of the investigator, handed over to Vedomosti journalists a copy of the decision to bring his client Ivan Safronov as an accused.

“The bans that were imposed on me in connection with the criminal case gradually made my work impossible. I was prohibited from using communications and the Internet, communicating with my client and some colleagues. In general, I was banned from everything without which a lawyer’s work could not be effective,” said Pavlov.

The lawyer emphasized that on the day of his departure from Russia, he was placed under surveillance, and the security forces “accompanied” him “all the way to the plane.”

Currently Pavlov is in Georgia.

• “Team 29” specialized in protecting freedom of speech, led the case of Ivan Safronov and a number of other criminal cases of treason and espionage. The announcement of the cessation of activities was preceded by the blocking of the project website . The explanatory note from Roskomnadzor states that the project’s website contained certain materials from the organization Společnost Svobody Informace, registered in the Czech Republic and recognized as undesirable in Russia. “Team 29” denied the presence of materials from the Czech organization on the site.
• Ivan Safronov, a former journalist for Kommersant and Vedomosti, is accused of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). His persecution is associated with his journalistic activities - he was covering the work of the military-industrial complex. In July, Safronov was interrogated as a witness in the case of his lawyer Pavlov. Because of this, Pavlov lost the opportunity to communicate with his client, since the ban on certain actions assigned to the lawyer included restrictions on communication with witnesses in the case.
