RAS competition for the popularization of science for 2021

On August 25, 2021, the Russian Academy of Sciences announced a competition for the 2021 prize for the best works on the popularization of science. This year applications are accepted in the following three categories:

• “The best popular science book about ecology, environmental protection and biodiversity conservation”;
• “The best original course aimed at popularizing science in school”;
• “The best project to support citizen science.”

Popular science books published in 2019–2021 and dedicated to ecology, environmental protection and biodiversity conservation can be submitted for the competition in the category “Best popular science book about ecology, environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.”

Highly professional courses for schoolchildren (implemented as part of the curriculum, extracurricular activity plan or additional education programs) in any areas of scientific knowledge, not created by order of the Ministry of Education, can be submitted for the competition in the category “Best original course aimed at popularizing science at school.” , other relevant ministries or government organizations. Within the framework of this nomination, the programs of the author's courses will be evaluated (including an explanatory note on the goals and objectives of the course, features of its implementation, course content and thematic planning; additional materials for the course can be presented in the appendix to the program).

Popular science projects from 2019–2021, aimed at developing cooperation between scientific and educational organizations and society, and at informally and productively engaging groups or individuals from various backgrounds, can be submitted for the competition in the category “Best project to support citizen science.” society (including schoolchildren and junior students) to scientific research.

The right to nominate candidates for the award is granted to:

• academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and professors of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
• laureates of the RAS Prize for the best works on the popularization of science;
• laureates of the RAS gold medal for outstanding achievements in the field of dissemination of scientific knowledge;
• scientific and scientific-technical societies;
• scientists, scientific, scientific-methodological, scientific-technical councils of scientific institutions and educational organizations of higher education, regardless of their departmental affiliation;
• media specializing in the field of science and education;
• publishing houses.

The application for the award must be written in Russian and include:

• letter of nomination of applicant(s) in any form;
• the name of the nomination for which the work is nominated;
• full title of the work;
• a brief summary of the work (no more than 5000 characters with spaces);
• brief information about the publishing house, media, or Internet resource on which the work is posted;
• an electronic version of the work or a link to the Internet resource on which the work is posted;
• information about the leading authors of the work nominated for the competition (for each co-author, but no more than five people in the application):
  • last name, first name, patronymic of the author;
  • place of work and position held;
  • scientific degree and academic title of the author (if available);
  • contact information (mailing address, telephone and email address);
  • the author’s consent to the processing of his (her) personal data and to participate in the RAS competition (see consent form [ 2 ]).

Attention! Applications for participation in the competition must be submitted electronically in text format (Word, etc.); in addition, you can also submit an electronic copy in pdf format. Send applications to the RAS Commission for the Popularization of Science at awardRAS.2021@yandex.ru no later than October 11, 2021. The printed version of the application must be sent to the Russian Academy of Sciences no later than October 11, 2021 (by postmark) at the address: 119991, Moscow, Leninsky Prospekt, 14, to the Scientific Secretary of the RAS Commission for the Popularization of Science N.V. Demina.

The competition is held in accordance with the regulations on the RAS Prize for the best works on the popularization of science, approved by Resolution of the Presidium of the RAS dated May 28, 2019 No. 100 (see [ 3 ]) as amended on June 16, 2020 No. 98 [ 4 ].
