In Rostov-on-Don, the arrests of five Hizb ut-Tahrir defendants were extended
On September 9, the Southern District Military Court extended for three months the arrests of five defendants in the second Simferopol case of Hizb ut-Tahrir. This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity portal.
Servet Gaziev, Jemil Gafarov, Alim Karimov, Seyran Murtaza and Erfan Osmanov will remain in custody. Gaziev attended the meeting via video link from the hospital where he is staying after suffering a minor stroke in July.
The defense petitioned for the release or transfer to house arrest of all the defendants, in particular, the elderly Gafarov and Gaziev, who have health problems. The latter has been partially paralyzed on the right side of his body after a microstroke, and he still does not receive proper treatment. Gafarov was diagnosed with the 3rd group of disability, chronic renal failure of the fourth degree and related heart diseases were diagnosed. The court refused to change the measure of restraint.
Gaziev, Gafarov, Karimov, Murtaza and Osmanov, like most of the defendants in the second Simferopol case of Hizb ut-Tahrir, are accused under the article on participation in the activities of a terrorist organization (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). In addition, all the defendants were charged under articles on preparation for a violent seizure of power (278 of the Criminal Code with the application of part 1 of article 30 of the Criminal Code). The case file does not say that the defendants had any weapons, explosives, ammunition, or that they planned to commit a terrorist act.
