In Sterlitamak, a Just Russia candidate for the State Duma, Vadim Iskandarov, and seven of his agitators were detained while distributing campaign materials on the street. This is reported by Ideal.Realities.
In addition to Iskandarov, officers of the Russian Guard detained Alina Galeeva, Yevgeny Sorokotyaga, Rufina Karimova, Ekaterina Galiyeva, Sergei Sukhorukov, Yevgeny Fyodorov, and Karina Karimova.
“We came with our materials to the central square, where City Day was held today, to conduct a legitimate election campaign. Literally five minutes later, police cars drove up, a representative of the administration of Sterlitamak approached, who said that here, on the square, an official event of the United Russia party was being held and demanded that the police remove us. At first we withdrew, but then information came that the candidate from United Russia, Dinar Gilmutdinov, who was running in the same constituency No. 9, would arrive and speak. I also intended to speak, since this is a citywide holiday. But the police again called me to the bus, and immediately tightly twisted and stuffed into the car. We did the same with our boys and girls. Everyone was taken to the city police department, where they make us write some incomprehensible explanations, ”said Iskandarov.
Vadim Iskandarov was released from the police department three hours later, despite the fact that a prosecutor's sanction was required for his detention. The rest of the detainees were also released. As Iskandarov explained in the Kushtau on-line telegram channel, the police thus prevented him from communicating with voters. A representative of the city administration said that this was an official event of United Russia, and not the City Day.
