Red Shield VPN service began to be blocked in Russia

Roskomnadzor began blocking the Red Shield VPN service in Russia. This was announced by the creator of the service Vladislav Zdolnikov in his telegram channel.

According to him, the blocking began today at about 15:00 Moscow time and took place using technical means to counter threats (TSPU), which operators are required to install under the law on "sovereign runet".

“Obviously, the blocking is related to the publication of the Smart Voting lists,” Zdolnikov said. He added that, together with other creators of the VPN service, he plans to sue Roskomnadzor.

Last week, IT professionals noticed that the RKN tested the possibility of mass blocking Google and Cloudflare public DNS services at large providers. The exercises could also take place with the help of TSPU.

Roskomnadzor then demanded that Apple, as well as the DNS and CDN services of Google, Cisco and Cloudflare, stop giving users the means to bypass restrictions on access to the Smart Voting application and website, developed by the team of politician Alexei Navalny. Failure to comply with the demands threatened to be regarded as interference in the elections, which will be held this Saturday.
