A picketer was detained on Manezhnaya Square. He spoke in support of candidates not allowed to participate in the elections

Picketer Artem Elshansky was detained on Manezhnaya Square in Moscow, his friend told OVD-Info.

Elshansky stood with a poster in support of independent candidates who were not allowed to participate in the elections due to the ban on those involved in extremist organizations from being elected. The man was taken to the Kitay-Gorod police department.

19:39 The detained picketer was released from the police without a report on the offense. His interests in the department were represented by lawyer from OVD-Info Sergei Telnov.

• On May 26, the State Dumafinally adopted the “law against FBK” - it prohibits participation in elections by those involved in “extremist organizations.” OVD-Info recorded more than 30 cases of non-admission to elections of people whom election commissions considered involved in “extremist organizations.”
• On June 9, the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny were recognized as extremist organizations.
• Russian authorities announced the holding of almost nine thousand election campaigns at various levels on a single voting day on September 19, 2021. From September 17 to 19, elections of State Duma deputies, regional governors, deputies of legislative assemblies and city parliaments will take place.
