The court upheld the decision to fine the defender of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain

On September 16, the Volgograd Regional Court approved 74-year-old activist Galina Tikhenko a fine of 150 thousand rubles under the article on repeated violation of the rules for participation in public actions (part 8 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). This is reported by the "Caucasian Knot".

On July 7, Galina Tikhenko went to a solo picket against deforestation in the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain. Behind her, another woman unfurled her banner, which Tikhenko said she did not see. After that, the activist was called to the police several times by phone, and on July 23, she was taken to the police department directly from her home, without being allowed to contact her relatives.

In the police, according to Tikhenko, she was threatened that they would send her to a cell for several days if she “defends her rights.” Much of what happened in the police and at the hearing of the court of first instance, which took place on the same day, Tikhenko did not understand due to hearing problems. She was not provided with a lawyer.

In the Court of Appeal, Tikhenko's defense insisted that the report had been falsified and demanded that the fine be cancelled. Nevertheless, the regional court upheld the decision of the Krasnoslobodskiy district court of Volgograd.

• On August 11, the police dispersed the tent camp of eco-activists defending the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain natural park. It is planned to build a track on the site of this park, for which it will be necessary to cut down about 15 thousand oaks. A protocol was drawn up against the activists on violation of the rules for the use of natural resources in specially protected areas (Article 8.39 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
