Doctor of Biological Sciences Vladimir Kovalzon, chief researcher at the Institute of Problems of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the head of the section of the dentology of the physiological society named after I.P. Pavlova, for many decades has been engaged in experimental studies of the physiology of sleep. In the book of the Kovalzon “The Pendulum of Sleep” (published this year, the Minsk publishing house is discourse and entered the short list of the Enlightener-2021 award ) describes the latest achievements in the field of dormnology.
With the kind permission of the publishing house, we chose an excerpt from the chapter “Mechanisms of slow sleep” for publication, in which the author briefly talks about the evolution of sleeping pills in the 20th century and how these unsafe drugs affected psychiatry, and in some cases even on historical events.
