The Investigative Committee opened a case regarding the death of a Kuban man, who was found unconscious near a store a few hours after his arrest.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over the death of Kuban resident Ilya Afrosin, who was found unconscious near a store a few hours after his arrest. The Committee Against Torture reported this to Mediazona.

Human rights activists clarified that the case was opened under the article on intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim through negligence (Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code).

Afrosin was detained twice. His father told lawyers about the first detention on June 29. The next day, the Prikubansky District Court of Krasnodar fined Afrosin Jr. one thousand rubles under the article on petty hooliganism (part 2 of article 20.1 of the Administrative Code).

After that, he sent his sister a video showing abrasions from handcuffs and other injuries, including on the head, neck and shoulder. Also in the video, he talks about “illegal actions of patrol officers,” beatings and fines.

On July 1, Afrosin was detained for the second time. A few hours later he was found unconscious near one of the shops located a 20-minute walk from the police department.

“It took an hour and a half to call the ambulance from different phones. The guy felt really bad, he threw back his tongue, lost consciousness, held his stomach, said that it hurt,” the Committee Against Torture reports as a comment from a witness.

According to the death certificate, the Kuban man died in an ambulance due to a spleen injury. The detainee's parents learned of his death almost a month later. The morgue refused to give them the body while the examination was underway.
