On September 16, the Shuya City Court of the Ivanovo Region returned for revision the criminal case of Jehovah's Witnesses Elena and Dmitry Mikhailov, Alexey Arkhipov, Svetlana Ryzhkova and Svetlana Shishina. This was reported on a website covering the persecution of believers in Russia.

Dmitry Mikhailov is accused of organizing, participating in and financing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code, Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). In addition to Mikhailov, the charge of collecting funds for such an organization (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code) was brought against his wife Elena Mikhailova and their co-religionists Svetlana Shishina and Svetlana Ryzhkova. Also, Mikhailova and believer Alexei Arkhipov are charged with an article on participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code), and Ryzhkova is charged with an article on organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code).

The case against Jehovah's Witnesses was initiated in 2018. A security officer infiltrated their group, feigning an interest in the Bible, attending services and communicating with believers about God.

On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. Later, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations. After this, a stream of criminal cases against representatives of the confession began.
