The Prosecutor General's Office recognized two Scientology organizations as “undesirable”

The Prosecutor General's Office declared undesirable in Russia the "World Institute of Scientology Enterprises" and the "Ron Hubbard Library" from the United States. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The religious doctrine of Scientologists originated in 1952 in the United States. Its founder, American science fiction writer Ron Hubbard Lafayette, developed a spiritual practice called Dianetics. Almost immediately after the founding of the church, believers began to have problems: they were accused of fraud, preaching pseudoscience, financial violations, persecuting apostates and critics of Hubbard's teachings. Trials took place in the United States, Germany, France and Belgium.

In Russia, Hubbard's book What is Scientology? recognized as extremist material. Meduza Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Public Associations and Religious Organizations, explained to that the Church of Scientology is not registered as a religious organization in Russia.

The authorities may recognize an organization that is not registered on the territory of Russia as “undesirable”. The legislation provides for up to four years in prison for participants and up to six years for organizers of such organizations.

• In St. Petersburg, five members of the Church of Scientology are being prosecuted on criminal charges of illegal business activities, involvement in an extremist community and inciting hatred.
