In early February 2021, Dmitry Medvedev complained to reporters that Twitter recommends that the Russians subscribe to Alexei Navalny.

Almost nine months have passed. Alexey Navalny is in prison. And Twitter still recommends subscribing to him! The former president is very upset by such an intervention in the political life of Russia. After all, he literally did not subscribe to this. On September 27, Medvedev said :

When I, it means, watched Twitter's recommendations, who should I subscribe to, of course, the first person who was recommended to me, was Navalny, who was serving a criminal sentence. Well, isn't this an interference in the affairs of another country? In its pure form, intervention.

And what is this for recommendations?

Twitter recommends subscribing to an account in several cases. For example, if it is very popular in your country. Or if the topic of this account coincides with your interests - that is, what you usually read on the same twitter.

• Navalny is really popular in Russia, he has 2.6 million subscribers. Medvedev has almost two million more, but the likes collect likes so -so. So on this item is Navalny ✅
• Medvedev is a politician. Navalny - too. As they write in Tender, itʼs a match! And again ✅
• Well, most importantly: Navalny came to the social network a year earlier than Medvedev. So Twitter has the full right to recommend a “convicted citizen” at least for the length of service.

And how to get rid of this?

Let's just say there are options. Here are the most obvious.

• Subscribe to Navalny. No, but what? Then his account will definitely disappear from the recommendations. And not that it will greatly affect Medvedev’s tape, he still reads some politicians. And video blogger Ruslan Usachev.
• Ban Navalny. Agree, cowardly. But the safe. There will be neither recommendations, nor “flair, muti and compote” from the oppositionist account.
• To prove Twitter that Medvedev is not interested in politics. Suppose, go to the list of “interests” and take off the tick from the topic “News/Politics”. You can subscribe to popular Russian -speaking comedians - say, Alexander Dolgopolov or, there, Idraka Mirzalizade (alas, Garik Martirosyan does not sit on Twitter). • Disconnect the personalization of content in Twitter settings. But this cannot guarantee complete protection against the "intervention" of Navalny. Indeed, the tweet screenshot from his account can always fly to the tape ... But here you can add his last name to the list of ignored words and notifications. That is how Medvedev and his colleagues act in real life. Do not get used to it!
