Alexei Navalny Wins Polish Knight of Freedom Award

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has become a laureate of the Knight of Freedom award, which was established by the Polish Kazimierz Puławski Foundation . This was reported on the foundation's website.

The Knight of Liberty Award has been presented since 2005 to people "who have made significant contributions to the advancement of democracy, freedom and equality throughout the world." Previously, the only Russian to receive it was Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

The award ceremony will take place in Warsaw on October 5. Instead of Navalny, who is in prison for the Yves Rocher case, the award will be received by his associates Vladimir Milov and Leonid Volkov.
