The defendant in the “sanitary case” Anastasia Vasilyeva was demanded to be sentenced to restriction of freedom

During the debate in the Preobrazhensky District Court of Moscow, the prosecutor asked the defendant in the “sanitary case” Anastasia Vasilyeva to have a year and eight months of restriction of freedom. This was reported by the press service of the court.

The head of the “Alliance of Doctors” was demanded to be found guilty under the article of incitement to violate sanitary and epidemiological standards (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code with the use of Part 4 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code) at a rally on January 23.

On September 1, Vasilyeva was detained by the police and taken to court. The prosecutor's office stated the need to tighten the preventive measure and replace the ban on certain actions with house arrest. The court refused to grant this request.

• Anastasia Vasilyeva is a former ally of Alexei Navalny, the head of the independent trade union “Alliance of Doctors” and a person involved in the “sanitary case”. Initially, the court sentenced her to house arrest, but later the preventive measure was changed to a ban on certain actions.
• Most of the defendants in the “sanitary case” are accused of inciting violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules in connection with the January 23 rally in Moscow in support of Alexei Navalny. According to investigators, activists published calls to take part in protests, thus encouraging people to violate restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. The court has already issued eight verdicts in the case. Lyubov Sobol , Kira Yarmysh , Lyusya Stein and Dmitry Baranovsky were sentenced to one and a half years of restriction of freedom. Nikolai Lyaskin , Oleg Stepanov and Maria Alyokhina were sentenced to a year of restricted freedom; Later, the appellate court reduced Lyaskin’s sentence to 10 months.Oleg Navalny was given a year of probation. Another defendant, Dani Akel, who, according to investigators, came to the rally under the influence of calls from other defendants, although he was sick with coronavirus, was sentenced to a fine of 100 thousand rubles. The case of Konstantin Jankauskas was closed at the investigation stage.
