Students and employees of St. Petersburg State University prepared an open letter for the leadership of the university. They ask to pay attention to the incident in the university folklore ensemble. In early October, the head of the ensemble forbade the undergraduate Maxim Drozhzhina to attend classes because of his homosexuality.

The authors of the letter believe that the actions of the head of the ensemble violate not only the Code of the Universant of St. Petersburg State University, but also the article of the Russian Constitution on the equality of human rights and freedoms . “We <...> not acceptable any of the forms of discrimination in the walls of our university,” the authors of the letter wrote.

By the evening of October 8, more than 300 people signed the letter. Among them are students of the faculties of St. Petersburg State University, the RSPU named after Herzen, the RANEPA, the PSPBSU named after Pavlov and other universities.
