The American destroyer Chaifi tried to violate the Russian border, the Russian Ministry of Defense said. The incident occurred on October 15 between 17:00 and 17:50 local time (10:00 in Moscow) in the Gulf of Peter the Great in the water area of the Japanese Sea.
In response to the actions of the destroyer, the large anti -submarine ship of the Pacific Fleet "Admiral Tributs" made several warnings to the ship. The foreign crew also notified that the destroyer fell into the area closed for shipping due to the exercise.
After Chaifi did not change the course, the crew "Admiral Tributs" decided to push the ship of the US Navy from Russian territorial waters.
“The destroyer“ Cheythi ”, making sure that the crew of the Russian ship to prevent violation of the state border, changed the direction and at 17:50 turned out to the reverse course when less than 60 meters remained before the Admiral Tributs BPC,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
The department called the actions of the destroyer’s crew by a rude violation of the international rules for preventing the clash of vessels in the sea and the Russian-American agreement on the prevention of incidents in the open sea and in the airspace of it over 1972.
