"Unprecedented security measures are being taken." Gulagu.net reveals the name of the programmer who transmitted the archive of videos of torture of prisoners

The founder of the human rights project Gulagu.net, Vladimir Osechkin, has revealed the name of the programmer who gave the human rights activists an archive of video recordings of torture of prisoners and scenes of sexual violence. This is Sergei Savelyev.

"He is now safe and under guard. Generally speaking, unprecedented security measures are being taken in relation to Sergei Savelyev," Osechkin said on the Dozhd TV channel.

He noted that human rights activists did not disclose the name of their source or publish his photograph until he arrived in France. Osechkin explained this by saying that FSB and SVR officers "could have cut him off in the countries where he moved."

After arriving in Paris, Savelyev asked for political asylum in France.

• Sergei Savelyev worked as a CCTV camera administrator at the Federal Penitentiary Service tuberculosis hospital in the Saratov region while serving a nine-year sentence for drug trafficking. He gave the human rights project Gulagu.net 40 gigabytes of video footage of prisoners being tortured and scenes of sexual violence.
• Following the publication of the video recordings, investigators opened seven criminal cases under articles on violent sexual acts and abuse of office. Five FSIN employees who, according to human rights activists, were involved in torture, were dismissed.
