The Czech Senate proposed temporarily depriving the sick president of his powers

The speaker of the Czech Senate, Milos Vystrcil, said that on October 19, the constitutional committee of the Senate will discuss further actions in connection with the illness of 77-year-old Czech President Milos Zeman, Seznam Zpravy reports.

Vystrchil said that, according to the doctors, Zeman cannot fulfill his duties for health reasons, and "the long-term prognosis is assessed as extremely uncertain."

The head of the Senate said that the senators will discuss whether to activate Article 66 of the Czech Constitution, according to which, in the event of the death or illness of the president, part of his powers are temporarily transferred to the head of the senate, and part to the speaker of the House of Representatives. “Unfortunately, there is no other option – we will have to discuss when and how we will activate Article 66 of the Constitution,” said Milos Vystrcil.

The head of the presidential administration, Vratislav Mlynar, accused the speaker of the Czech Senate of media game and hypocrisy.

• On October 10, Milos Zeman was hospitalized at the Central Military Hospital in Prague due to complications associated with the chronic illness of the Czech President. Doctors do not disclose the diagnosis made to Zeman.
• The Czech President was taken to intensive care after meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Babis, whose party lost to the opposition coalition "Together" in the parliamentary elections.
