According to the court ruling, the organization disseminated “ideas about the non-recognition of the Russian Federation as a state, about the illegitimacy of government bodies in Russia, as well as calls for hostile acts against Jews.” In addition, supporters of the “Council of Citizens of the USSR” allegedly systematically disobey the legal demands of representatives of law enforcement agencies and often become involved in criminal cases.
The “Citizens of the USSR” cell in the Kubansky district of Krasnodar has been operating since 2019. In March 2021, the leader of the regional branch of “Citizens of the USSR” Marina Melikhova was sentenced to three and a half years in prison under the article on public calls on the Internet to carry out extremist activities (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code).
