Ingush protest leaders have their detention in pre-trial detention center extended for three months

The Kislovodsk City Court extended the arrest of the defendants in the “Ingush case” for three months, until February 9, 2022. This was reported by the press service of the Memorial Human Rights Center.

In total, seven people are involved in the case of organizing the use of violence against policemen: Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, Ismail Nalgiev, Zarifa Sautiyeva, Malsag Uzhakhov, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barukh Chemurziev.

Protest leaders in Ingushetia are charged with an article on organizing life-threatening violence against police officers (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code with the application of part 3 of article 33 of the Criminal Code). In addition, Barakhoev, Uzhakhov and Malsagov are charged with organizing the activities of an extremist community (part 1 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code), while the rest are charged with participating in it (part 2 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code).

Barakhoev and Uzhakhov are also accused of involvement in a non-profit organization that infringes on the personality and rights of citizens (Article 239 of the Criminal Code), and only Barakhoev is accused of failing to fulfill the obligation to notify the presence of a second citizenship (Article 330.2 of the Criminal Code).

The human rights center "Memorial" recognized the defendants in the "Ingush case" as political prisoners.

• On March 26, 2019, a rally was held in Magas against changing the borders of Ingushetia - about ten thousand people came out to the action. Two thousand protesters remained in the square all night. In the morning they began to disperse them - as a result, clashes broke out between the security forces and the protesters .
• According to the Memorial Human Rights Center, as of June 3, 2021, 51 people were prosecuted in connection with the 2019 rally in Magas, and prosecution against three of them was stopped. More than 30 defendants in the "Ingush case" were sentenced to terms ranging from five months to three and a half years.
