Roskomnadzor drew up a repeated protocol against Google for failure to remove prohibited content. The company faces a fine of up to 10% of annual turnover in Russia - this is billions of rubles

Roskomnadzor drew up an administrative protocol against Google for repeated failure to remove prohibited information (part 5 of article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). This was reported on the website of the department.

According to Roskomnadzor, YouTube, owned by Google, systematically fails to comply with the requirements to remove prohibited content. At the moment, the site contains over 2.4 thousand “illegal materials dangerous for Russian citizens”.

In the near future, the materials will be submitted to the court. Roskomnadzor recalled that since the violation was repeated, the fine could range from 5% to 10% of the company's annual turnover in Russia.

• Since the beginning of the year, Roskomnadzor has drawn up 16 protocols on non-removal of illegal content on Google. The company was fined a total of 32.5 million rubles.
• The norm on turnover fines has been in force in Russia since the end of 2020. So far, no one has been held accountable for it.
• At the end of September, Roskomnadzor threatened Facebook with a turnover fine. A few days later, she removed the content that caused claims by the department - while the RKN stated that a fine could still be imposed, since the company did not meet the deadlines stipulated by law.
• Google's revenue in Russia in 2020 amounted to 85 billion rubles.
