A man from Izberbash was suspected of involvement in the Nurcular movement

The Investigative Committee of Dagestan opened a criminal case on participation in an extremist organization (part 2 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) against a 45-year-old resident of Izberbash. He is suspected of involvement in the religious association Nurcular. this The department announces on its website.

The press release writes about more than one defendant in the case: “The suspects took part in meetings to study the ideological sources of the indicated extremist organization.”

The suspect's identity has not been released. Whether a measure of restraint was chosen for him is not known. The case was opened based on the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Center for Counteracting Extremism.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported two more suspected extremists because of possible support for the association.

• The activities of Nurcular, followers of the Turkish theologian Said Nursi, were declared extremist and banned by the Russian Supreme Court in 2008 because they allegedly aim to establish Muslim religious rule based on Sharia. The Information and Analytical Center “Sova” considers the ban on the association “Nurcular” unlawful. According to human rights activists, there is no such organization in Russia, there are only individual believers. As they write on the website of the center, they are unreasonably persecuted for studying the books of the theologian.
