Film critic Anton Dolin stated that the magazine “Art of Cinema”, of which he is the editor-in-chief, has lost funding from the state Cinema Fund at the request of the general director of Channel One, Konstantin Ernst.
He learned about Ernst’s request from those who were present at the statement of the channel’s general director, Dolin said in an interview with the Dozhd TV channel.
The reason, according to Dolin, was his review of the film "Union of Salvation", which was published on "Meduza". Ernst was one of the producers of this film.
"Ernst said: let's not give money to Iskusstvo Kino. And so we didn't receive this money from the state. For the fact that a film by one of the producers, who is important for the state, I absolutely allowed myself to criticize it not even in Iskusstvo Kino, but in another publication," Dolin said.
The official reason given for the funding refusal, he added, was that the fund's purpose was to finance film, not print media.
The funds that the Iskusstvo Kino magazine received from the Cinema Fund, according to Dolin, went towards salaries, fees, and rent.
