On November 10, 2020, after the signing of a tripartite agreement with the participation of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced a complete ceasefire and the end of the Karabakh conflict.
After the 44-day war, Armenia was forced to transfer the territories to Azerbaijan, which had previously been under the control of the unrecognized republic of Nagorny Karabakh. A year after the signing of the agreement on the termination of the war, the state did not conclude a peace treaty.
The leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia shift responsibility to each other, accusing the opposite side of non -compliance with the clauses of the agreement. The Azerbaijani authorities reproach Yerevan of unremarking to solve the issue of demarcation and delimitation of borders. In turn, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan insists that Baku violates the terms of the agreement by which Azerbaijan must return all prisoners of war held on his territory.
Now Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia are agreeing on a new summit. At this time, a truce is periodically violated at the border, and transport communications remain blocked.
How did Armenia and Azerbaijan change after the war? Both countries are ready for a new armed confrontation? Or does this year promise a long freezing conflict?
In this issue of “what happened” we say with Kirill Krivosheev - a correspondent of the foreign policy department of the Kommersant Publishing House.
