Elon Musk has promised to give $6 billion to fight hunger if the UN draws up a plan to do so. The UN has drawn up one

The World Food Programme (WFP) has unveiled a plan to fight global hunger and called on billionaires to donate, in a response to Tesla founder Elon Musk, whom it had previously called on to fund the cause.

In late October, WFP CEO David Beasley told CNN that super-rich people like Elon Musk and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos could help solve world hunger by donating some of their wealth. Beasley estimated that $6 billion, or just 2% of Musk’s wealth at the time, would be needed.

In response, the Tesla founder tweeted that he was willing to sell $6 billion worth of company shares and give them to WFP if the organization clearly and transparently explains how the money would help solve the food crisis. At the same time, Musk noted that WFP raised $8.4 billion in 2020 and asked why that did not solve the problem.

According to the WFP plan, $6.6 billion is needed to prevent 42 million people in 43 countries from dying of starvation.

• 3.5 billion of them will be spent on purchasing and delivering food products
• Two billion will be allocated in the form of cash and food vouchers for residents of regions where they can buy food at the market and support the local economy
• $700 million to develop and expand food and voucher distribution programs in 43 countries
• 400 million - to finance operations within the WFP, including logistics coordination, as well as global monitoring and analysis of hunger in the world.
• In early November, Elon Musk's fortune exceeded $300 billion, making him the richest man in the world. Later, amid the sale of Tesla shares, the businessman's fortune decreased. As of November 16, Forbes and Bloomberg estimate its size at $275.5 billion and $279 billion. At the same time, Musk still ranks first in the billionaire rankings.
