Historian Yuri Dmitriev, who is now imprisoned on charges of sexual violence, wrote a letter that he was thinking about the requirement of the Prosecutor General’s Office to liquidate the Memorial human rights center (recognized as a “foreign agent”). His letter was published by journalist Natalya Demina. North. Realities give its text completely.
Yesterday, your two letters came at once. The second is about the "memorial". I learned about the collision of the prosecutor’s office in the afternoon. By TV, with violent joy, they said that this enemy agent would finally be compressed. In the qualities of his evidence, the "memorial", the abominability of the video was mounted. As you guess, I was shown in all its glory with the transfer of regalia by the court to me already inspired. And how such a harmful community, among other things, collecting and transmitting military secrets abroad, can exist in our country - a couple of full -time political scientists immediately asked. In general - the RT has a complete euphoria from this collision of the prosecutor's office. I have been participating in it for more than 30 years. I know and knew many people who were the “memorial” to the faithful good memory of their missing “without the right to correspond” relatives and friends. He returned faith to justice - even so bitter. It just so happened that I had to start my memorial activity with the reburial of the remains of the executed. Then, already consciously, I took up the search for places where executions were carried out, with their subsequent memorialization. Over the years, I intersected with many memorials and I can safely say that they are all people of a high soul. That is why they are afraid of all sorts of "catching structures." There is nothing surprising too. “What is the pop - such is the parish,” says folk wisdom. I personally know those who are now at the helm of the Memorial, I can say with confidence that the “Memorial” will work, no matter what decision the Supreme Court has made. The truth that the Memorial “mines” is too in demand for both our citizens and other peoples is in demand. The right to know its story as it really was, and not the one about which the RT broadcasts. Since our work is needed - we will work. Work experience in difficult conditions was, is, well studied and can be applied in our time. "The historian and head of the Karelian Memorial, Yuri Dmitriev, together with colleagues in the 1990s, opened the tract of Sandarmokh, where people were shot during the Great Terror. In total, about 150 grave pits were recorded and noted, in which about 4.5 thousand people could be located.
Yuri Dmitriev was detained in 2016. He was accused of making pornography with the participation of the adopted daughter. Two years later, Dmitriev was justified. However, later the court decision was challenged and the verdict was canceled.
In 2018, a new accusation of violent actions against the adopted daughter appeared in the case. In the summer of 2020, the court in Petrozavodsk sentenced the historian to 3.5 years in the colony.
In the Supreme Court of Karelia, Judge Alla Ratz tightened the punishment for Dmitrieva: the term of imprisonment was changed for 13 years of maximum security. The court canceled the acquittal of the articles on the manufacture of pornography, depraved actions and storage of weapons. These cases are aimed at a new consideration in the new composition of the court in Petrozavodsk.
