The author of a web series about Putin's trial asked for political asylum in France

Karim Yamadayev, author of a web series about the Putin trial, has asked for political asylum in France, according to Network Freedoms. Previously, he was sentenced to a fine.

Human Rights Project reports that Yamadayev said he left after gunmen who introduced themselves as FSB officers pushed him into a black minibus and threatened him with a new criminal case if he did not withdraw his complaint to the European Court of Human Rights. The author of the series said that this happened in September 2021.

Because of the creation of the Judge Gramm series, on March 4, a Tatarstan activist was found guilty of inciting terrorism (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) and insulting a government official (article 319 of the Criminal Code). Yamadayev was sentenced to a fine of 510 thousand rubles, taking into account the time served in the pre-trial detention center, the final amount was 300 thousand rubles. The activist was in custody for more than a year.

The verdict was confirmed on appeal and upheld on appeal. The author of the series sent a complaint against him to the ECtHR.

Earlier, Yamadayev spoke about the pressure on his mother: the security forces regularly visited the elderly woman and asked questions about her son, the activist also said that his sister died of cancer, which manifested itself a few months after the start of his persecution.
