MIPT is included in the US sanctions list

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is included in the US sanctions list through the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce.

The reason for including MIPT in the list is the development of products in the interests of a military customer. Together with the Russian institute, eight technology companies from China (including to prevent leakage of quantum computing technologies) and 16 companies and individuals from Pakistan involved in the country's nuclear and missile programs were included in the list.

Members of the list lose the opportunity to purchase goods and technologies in the United States.

At the end of last year, 45 Russian companies and organizations were included in the BIS list, including the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Russian Ministry of Defense, the presidential administration, UAC, Rosoboronexport, Rostec, Russian Helicopters OJSC, scientific institutes and others.

Prior to that, the US tightened export control rules for the supply of goods and technology to Russia and China. US exporters must obtain a special license before exporting goods to these countries, even those intended for civilian use, but which can be used in the military (for example, chips and bearings). At the same time, the concept of "military use" of goods has been expanded to include "any person or organization whose activities or functions are intended to support military use."
