Eight participants in a rally against QR codes were fined in Kazan

The Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan fined eight participants in the protest against the introduction of QR codes. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the press service of the court.

Two protesters were defended by OVD-Info lawyer Venera Safina. Activist Mikhail Pomazny received a fine of five thousand rubles, the same fine was imposed on the second client of the lawyer from OVD-Info. However, the hearing on her case, Safina adds, took place right at the police department. In total, the Vakhitovsky court examined eight protocols: on seven they fined five thousand rubles, on one - ten thousand rubles. The court postponed consideration of four more cases.

Participants in the event were found guilty of holding an action without filing a notification (Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences) and violating the rules for its conduct (Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences). A report was initially drawn up against Safina’s client under the 2nd part of Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code, but then the court reclassified the charge to a more lenient one - the 5th part. Apparently, a similar situation occurred with Pomazny.

• On November 25, a protest was held in Kazan against the introduction of QR codes in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The police detained about 40 people there.
• On the eve of the rally, Kazan police detained activist Dmitry Fedorov because of a repost calling for a rally against QR codes. A protocol was drawn up against him under the article on violation of the rules for organizing the action (Part 2 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses)
• On November 12, the State Duma proposed using QR codes with information about vaccination against coronavirus or medical documents for visiting public places, traveling by rail and air travel. Regional authorities will have to determine exactly where QR codes will be required. Many Russian residents did not agree with this initiative, and protests began in a number of cities.
