Five defendants in the second Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case had their arrest extended for three months

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don extended the preventive measure for the defendants in the second Simferopol case of Hizb ut-Tahrir. It is reported by "Crimean solidarity".

Tofig Abdulgaziev, Vladlen Abdulkadyrov, Izzet Abdullayev, Mejit Abdurakhmanov and Bilyal Adilov will remain in the SIZO until at least March 19, 2022. According to the prosecutor, who applied for an extension of the arrest, those accused of participating in the activities of an extremist organization (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and preparing for a violent change of power (article 278 of the Criminal Code with the application of part 1 of article 30 of the Criminal Code) allegedly “may leave the territory of the country, threaten the security of hidden witnesses and the state as a whole.”

The lawyer, in turn, on the contrary, petitioned for a mitigation of the measure of restraint and demanded that the defendants be placed under house arrest. “House arrest is also a lack of freedom, but this preventive measure will allow the defendants to raise children and improve their health,” he stressed.

The defender said that during his stay in the pre-trial detention center, several of the defendants in the case had deteriorated in health. So, the Crimean Tatar Tofik Abdulgaziev in custody suffered blood poisoning due to bedbug bites.

  • 29 Crimean Tatars are involved in the second Simferopol case. Four of them have been put on the wanted list, 25 people are in custody. Five are accused of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code), the rest of participating in its activities (part 2 of article 205.5); in addition, everyone is accused of preparing for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order (Article 278 with the application of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). The Krym.Realii publication published a detailed report on the Simferopol group in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case.
  • Hizb ut-Tahrir was recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. In this regard, criminal cases are initiated in different regions of the country, while the defendants are sentenced to various terms in a strict regime colony only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and spread their ideas. According to a number of experts, Hizb ut-Tahrir was unlawfully recognized as a terrorist organization, since its members in Russia did not prepare or carry out terrorist acts.
