Five Hizb ut-Tahrir defendants had their detention in pre-trial detention center extended

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don extended the detention period for five defendants in the second Hizb ut-Tahrir Simferopol case. This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity portal.

At least until March 20, 2022, Servet Gaziev, Dzhemil Gafarov, Alim Karimov, Seyran Murtaza and Erfan Osmanov will remain in prison.

Gafarov was diagnosed with the 3rd group of disability, chronic renal failure of the fourth degree and related heart diseases were diagnosed. He told the court that he was not receiving proper treatment in SIZO-5 in Rostov-on-Don, there were no facts of violent acts on the part of the defendants, and the speculations of the prosecution without confirmation by facts should be considered in favor of the defense. However, the court granted the prosecutor's request to extend the arrest.

• 29 Crimean Tatars are involved in the second Simferopol case. Five of them are accused of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code), the rest, including Gaziev, Gafarov, Karimov, Murtaza and Osmanov, of participating in its activities (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). In addition, everyone is accused of preparing for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order (Article 278 with the application of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code).
