The coordinator of “Crimean Solidarity” was again sent under administrative arrest

The coordinator of the Crimean Solidarity movement, Mustafa Seydaliev, was not released from the police after 14 days of administrative arrest had expired. New protocols are being drawn up against him, according to the movement’s website.

The activistwas arrested under the article on mass gatherings of citizens (Part 1 of Article 20.2.2 of the Administrative Code) after being detained on November 23 at a special detention center in Simferopol, from where lawyer Edem Semedlyaev was supposed to be released. He was sent to serve his arrest in the temporary detention center in Yevpatoria.

After the second arrest, Seydaliev’s defense lawyer was not allowed into the police department. The head of the Center for Countering Extremism, Ruslan Shambazov, drew up protocols against him under articles on the demonstration of prohibited symbols (Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Administrative Code) and the production of extremist materials (Article 20.29 of the Administrative Code). What exactly was the reason for drawing up the protocols is not known.

Lawyers Edem Semedlyaev and Emil Kurbedinov demanded that the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee in Crimea check the police department in Yevpatoria, whose employees did not allow lawyers in and provided false information about the whereabouts of the detained activist.

• Lawyer Edem Semedlyaev was arrested for 12 days after he arrived on October 25 to defend activists detained near the building of the Crimean Garrison Court. They gathered to listen to the broadcast of the appeal hearing on the Red Guard case of Hizb ut-Tahrir. When Semedlyaev was talking with the detainees, police officers tried to take one of them away. Then the lawyer told them that he would record what was happening on a tape recorder. An operative of the Center for Countering Extremism demanded that he stop filming. Semedlyaev tried to explain that he had not yet started filming anything, but the officer nevertheless drew up a report on him.
• More than 150 Crimean Tatars gathered to greet Edem Semedlyaev at the exit from the special detention center on the evening of November 23. The policedetained more than 30 people; they were subsequently fined and arrested.
• The Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation. In different regions of Russia, as well as in Crimea, cases are being brought against alleged party members for the activities of a terrorist organization. At the same time, members of Hizb ut-Tahrir were not seen preparing attacks or terrorist attacks. Defendants are sentenced to varying terms solely on the basis that they held meetings and read religious literature. On the territory of Ukraine, the activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir are permitted.
