The US Treasury imposed sanctions against a private Russian university due to ties with the DPRK

The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against the private Moscow university European Institute USTO and its rector Dmitry Soin due to ties with the DPRK, according to the ministry’s website.

According to American officials, the university has helped North Korean construction workers obtain hundreds of student visas. Some of these workers are linked to a North Korean organization involved in the creation of weapons of mass destruction, the ministry says.

In 1995, the Moscow government registered the “European Institute of USTO” as a university; in 2012, it changed its status to an institute. The university has the faculties of law and economics, as well as the faculty of management. In addition, on the basis of the university there is a “development school” of Rector Soin, where you can take courses “Manipulation of consciousness: defense and attack”, “Image is EVERYTHING!” Don’t let yourself get pushed around!” and “Technologies of Influence.” As additional education, the university offers courses in aromatherapy, herbal medicine and adaptive physical education.

In November 2020, the United States imposed restrictions on three Russian companies under the Weapons of Mass Destruction Non-Proliferation Act. The sanctions list includes Nilco Group , Elecon Plant JSC and Aviazapchast JSC.
