State Duma deputies adopted in the third reading a bill on pre-trial blocking of sites justifying extremism. The document was published on the website of the lower house of parliament.

The authors of the amendments were 12 deputies, among them United Russia members Vasily Piskarev and Natalya Poklonskaya, who is not a member of the current State Duma.

The changes will affect the federal law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection.” In its current edition, it allows the Prosecutor General’s Office to block websites only if there are “calls” for extremist or terrorist activities.

According to the authors of the amendments, the changes will make it possible to block extremist sites “in a short time, which is difficult to achieve in court.” Deputies emphasize that it usually takes about two months from the court decision to the actual blocking of the resource.

“The introduction of the proposed norm is caused by the objective need to immediately take measures to prevent the commission of extremist actions and terrorist acts,” the explanatory note says.
