The 67-year-old rector of Shaninka Sergei Zuev, arrested in connection with the embezzlement of funds from the Ministry of Education, was transferred from the Matrosskaya Tishina pretrial detention center to a civilian hospital for examination. This was reported to Interfax by Alexander Khurudzhi, a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission.
The decision to transfer Zuev was made in the pretrial detention center's medical unit due to the need to urgently adjust the rector's treatment. The POC members witnessed the moment when Zuev was taken for examination. It is still unknown whether he will return to the pretrial detention center or remain for treatment in a civilian hospital, Khurudzhi added.
The investigator told the lawyers that Zuev had been taken to a Moscow hospital, said the rector's wife, Elizaveta Fokina. "We don't understand whether he is being taken for an examination, a consultation, or hospitalization. Nothing is clear at all. And it is unclear why this is happening without lawyers. They have been trying to reach the investigator all day today," she said.
Updated. Sergei Zuev was sent to a civilian hospital for a routine medical examination and consultation with specialized specialists, the FSIN press service said . "Currently, his health condition is assessed as satisfactory," the department believes.
