A court in Crimea extended the arrest of an imam from Simferopol

The Kiev District Court of Simferopol extended the arrest of Raif Fevziev, a Crimean defendant in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. It is reported by "Crimean solidarity".

The Crimean Tatar activist is charged with an article on participation in a terrorist organization (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) due to alleged involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir. The defense asked to transfer Fevziev under house arrest, instead, the preventive measure was extended until April 11, 2022.

Raif Fevziev, 41, is an imam, a Crimean Tatar activist, and a father of many children.

• On August 17, security forces conducted mass searches of Crimean Tatars in Simferopol. During the searches, five people were detained, including Fevziev. Subsequently, they were accused of organizing or participating in the activities of a terrorist organization (Parts 1 and 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).
• The Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir has been recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia. Its participants are accused and sentenced to real terms only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and recruited new participants. According to the Information and Analytical Center "Sova", the party is recognized as terrorist in Russia unlawfully.
