The court suspended the status of the "foreign" coordinator of the "vote" in Samara

The Samara District Court suspended the status of a "foreign agent" human rights activist and coordinator of the Voice movement (recognized as an "foreigner") Lyudmila Kuzmina. This was announced by the head of "Agora" Pavel Chikov with reference to the lawyer Vladimir Krasikov.

Lyudmila Kuzmina appealed in court the inclusion of "foreign agents" in the register, where she fell by decision of the Ministry of Justice in September 2021. She filed a request for preliminary protection measures, that is, she demanded to suspend the status. The court satisfied him.

Suspension of status means that Kuzmina may not comply with the requirements of the Law on "Ino -Agents" until the decision on the claim against the Ministry of Justice enters into force. The next meeting in the case will be held on January 20, 2022.

Earlier, the courts have already suspended the statuses of people who were recognized as "foreign agents." So, the court stopped statuses for the Pskov journalist Lyudmila Savitskaya and Karelian journalist Sergei Markelov. The editor -in -chief of the Pskov Province Denis Kamalyagin was not suspended, although his lawsuit was considered by the same judge as Savitskaya's case.

• The legislation on "foreign agents" in Russia appeared back in 2012. The law allowed the Ministry of Justice to recognize non-profit organizations by “foreign agents” if they receive financing from abroad and are engaged in “political activities”. The criteria for which such activities are determined are not clearly defined in the law, which allows the authorities to persecute organizations working in the field of education, culture, healthcare, ecology, and the protection of human rights. At the same time, over the nine years of the existence of the law, he was tightened several times, expanding its effect not only on the organization, but also on individuals.
• The Ministry of Justice began to bring Russian citizens to the new register of "foreign agents" at the end of 2020. Over the past year, 83 publications and individuals have been included in the register of the media, “foreign agents”, 10 organizations were included in the list of NKO-“foreign regents, three more projects were included in the list of unregistered“ foreign agents ”associations. Last year, three laws were adopted, tightening responsibility for violations for “foreign agents”.
• In December, the OVD-Info transferred 260 thousand signatures against the Law on Ino-Agents to the State Duma. The organization demanded completely cancel the law.
• The governments of 18 countries, including the United States, Germany, France and Britain, signed a joint statement in which the Russian authorities called on to stop pressure on independent media.
